i just had the valve clearance adjusted... my complaint was that it was revving pretty roughly and lately very noisy so i had the top removed and see if valve clearance is of specs. and yes they were (.16mm for a 4jb1t) -- now what the mechanic did was to set it at .15mm instead of the required one and now it pulls and sounds better and more refined. summing up his explanations, i think the valves are not that in good shape anymore.
can you shed more light on this my fellow isuzooers? any cons to what was done and is this usually done? so far so good...i'm just wondering if there's any long term disadvantage (like overheat). now i am still hesitant to use it for highway driving...

I am assuming that you mean they were at 16 thou gap and he changed the gap to 15 thou, this wouldnt make any difference at all. 1 thousand of an inch is such a small amount that you would never notice a difference.

If it runs better it cant be wrong (maybe) If it was .16mm they would almost feel tight with no movment at all and it woul probably run like a hairy goat. .15 thou of an inch is as already said so close to the correct setting that it wouldnt matter but might compensate for wear in the cam etc. I belive yours has a high milage. I doubt most people could set tappets to within +- 1 thou No one could set the type of adjustment used here to within +-0.01mm.
