Now Im back home i have been working in my ute.... The head cylinder was removed yesterday. I found water inside, lots of heat spots and soot around the liners and piston heads. I have to check if the head cylinder is twisted, hope do not. Next stage is take off the cyl block, and have a deep look inside. Yes...that should be a piston head. Notice water drops. Sulphated zone this is how it looks my head cylinder....can you see the nozzles??...

The head cylinder gasket is B grade for pistons projection of 0,813-0,859 mm. Is that the stock one in Mu`s* or that means my engine was overhauled before ??
*This engine comes out from a Jap imported Mu.

Hi there it looks a bit sooty and glazed on the cylinder walls, but nothing out of the ordinary on a diesel with a few ks on the clock. check for cracks between the valves in the cylinder head. The head gaskets came in many different sizes I gues because the engines vary slightly from the factory. Doesnt look that bad though from the pictures. have fun fixing it up.

Cant remember which one of your manuals it was in but theres a chart of the gasket grades etc. Mass production of engines is obviously still an inexact science

yes...here I don`t undestand if that is a secuence: Grade A first from factory, then B & C for overhauled engines. Or are they just different factory settings...as aza did mention above. (?)

Do not change gasket types, buy and refit the same grade that was/is fitted now. If you have a 3 notch gasket refit the same. The tolerances are tight with almost no clearance at top dead center from piston to head. With the wrong gasket you run the risk of damage. Also be sure to buy 4JB1-T pistons and parts if you replcace, they are not the same as 4JB1 (non turbo). Have you got someone to help you measure everything up for tolerances and wear etc? Like how are the bores? Can you feel any lip with your finger? Or run your finger nail up the bore, does it catch on any lip or ridge? I have done a 4JB1-T overhaul so if you need any more help just ask. jamesw.kicks-ass.net/4wd/mods/engine/

Hi James...i knew you were come here to help...great The liners aren`t so bad except the 3rd one that is bordered. I supposed 3rd cylinder was one of the problems becasue i could listen an abnormal noise from there.
I have been had some troubles looking for original Isuzu liners and piston over here. Mostly all are taiwanese for non turboed NKR mini truck...dont need them.
thanks

have a question about some codes.
in the stock head gasket, next to the TOP mark, i have this: 3270 IS, below 912 in the spare head gasket this: 3280 IS, below 984
What do they talk about ?
also...the liner grade stamped mark i have in the block from first to last cylinder is 3-5-4-3 . How can i understand that ?
thanks.
