Has anyone pulled a motor out of a lwb series 1 Bighorn?I'm trying to get one out now and it looks as though I'll have to lower the front diff. The gearbox won't go high enough to allow the sump to clear the diff tube.Wasn't a problem on the swb with it's 2'' body lift.

OK, havent done the Bighorn (MU wannabe),. but have taken the engine outa my MU about 4 times now and the gearbox once!
I have the exact problem as you describe and I have found that you can just squeeze it out over the diff. Just put a thin piece of metal over the back of the rocker cover so it slides up the firewall without taking out all the hoses and brakelines!
But if that just wont go, try wedging a piece of 4x2 at the back of the output on the Transfercase( need to cut to length). This pushes the gearbox one way and you can then rotate the engine the otherway in the engine bay to separate and then lift it out! I have had to use this technique a few times to get the input shaft back in the clutch on installation too!!
Goodluck!! Matt.

Thanks for the suggestions.Iwas looking at lowering the front diff a little but it looked like too much hassle to get it down far enough.Ended up taking off the small steel sump at the bottom and the oil pump pickup as well.Motor came out real easy then.Just have to be real careful not to damage the mounting face when the motor goes back in.
