I would like to put an Isuzu turbo-diesel into a Chevy or GMC 2WD suburban. As a relative newcomer when it comes to Isuzu engines I am overwhelmed by what seems to be a zillion different models. Can anyone suggest a way to narrow the search field a bit? I am hoping for maximum torque/horsepower per pound with a weight of around 5-600 pounds and the best of all possible durability factors for normal on-road driving - that's not too much to hope for is it Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated Steve in Oregon

By our standards the Suburban is a huge vehicle. Our Troopers are just under 2000kg your Suburban is not quite 3000kg. Also from what I can make out the diesel option was a 6.3 naturaly aspirated v8. I wouldnt be looking at our 4wd engines as they just are not big enough. Your better off looking at some of the truck engines. The 3.6 and 4.3 liter engines are direct injection and very reliable. A turbo version would perform quite well. There are bigger engines as well but I know almost nothing about them. My x brother in law was driving a B train (18 wheeler?) between Auckland and Wellington which is a fairly hilly route for a couple of years This was from memory a straight 8 with 400hp and he frequently carried more than our maximum 44 ton without problem
