Is it OK to disable the EGR valve? will disabling will harm the engine? I experienced engine hesitation when revving in my 3.1L '96 MU so I disabled the EGR by disconnecting the power to the two solenoid valves and hesitation is gone. I am just concerned if running in this condition will harm the engine. Your advise guys will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Should be ok. My EGR valves were removed before I bought my 2.8 bighorn 9 1/2 years and 100000km ago. Do check your local laws on emmisions though In some countries this could be illegal. NZ and Aus dont seem to care on older diesels

Info from Wikipedia: "Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a NOx (nitrogen oxide and nitrogen dioxide) reduction technique used in most gasoline and diesel engines. EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders. Intermixing the incoming air with recirculated exhaust gas dilutes the mix with inert gas, lowering the peak combustion temperatures and (in diesel engines) reducing the amount of excess oxygen. Because NOx formation progresses much faster at high temperatures, EGR serves to limit the generation of NOx. NOx is primarily formed when a mix of nitrogen and oxygen is subjected to high temperatures." Full article here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EgrCheck previous threads. Most people here have shown improvement in the performance by disabling/removing the EGR setup. J
