My 3.1MU is starting to blow a bit of blue smoke, do you think it would needa rebuild shortly? is this something you can do yourself orwill i have to get someoneelse to do it as i have no experience. could it be blowing smoke because of a blown head gasket? it is leaking a bit of oil fom around there but not alot. Is there any sort of rebuild manual i could get to help me through this? the motor is 4jg2

Could be a blown head gasket. If it is do crack test the head The 4jg2 is getting a name for cracking heads although not as bad as some other brands. Best way to tell if the engine is on the way out is to remove the crank case breather pipe and see if theres lots of smoke coming out. If not the engine is probably ok but a compression test will confirm. Diesel smoke can look blue sometimes although its more commonly black so your prob could be injector related. If you want to know whats involved in a rebuild look at James Whyte's profile and clik on his website. He has a full rundown on his rebuild with pictures
