I have recently had my engine reconditioned 4ZE1 2.6 petrol, the problem was apparently a valve was burnt, and she was only running on 3 cylinders...well the 4th only had 60% compression. SO... I had the head reconditioned new seals and all that stuff so the mechanic tels me its now got full compression, it does feel like it has more power than ever. My problem is that when I'm cruising along and i put the car in neutral (manual car) The revs tend to fluctuate from like 900 to 2000 up and down non stop. However when I'm in neutral at the lights she revs normally. The mechanic has no idea whats happening and neither do I obviously, so I though maybe some of you gurus might be able to tell me whats happening? I really want to get it fixed under the warranty of the mechanics original work, Oh and lastly the check engine light has been on ever sine the head work was done, and they cant work that out either??? Somebody please HELP. Thanks heaps

Its probably just a sensor thats crook or not plugged in right but I wouldnt be driving a car with a check engine light on. With the other issue I would suspect air flow sensor but the idle issue could be the air con solinoid. It could also be a problem on the ECU. Something isnt plugged in right. The reason I wouldnt drive it is that this could also idicate bad temp or oil pressure. If it wasnt doing this before and is now they have to fix or pay for it to go to someone else to fix

WOW superfast reply.
I remember he said apparently they already took it to the autoelec about the check engine thing. And he suggested it may be because the cylinder is all shiny and polished??

dont think so. First if the bores are shiney and polished the new rings will never bed in.Bores should be honed so they have an even dull finish. Second if the compression is good then theres very little wrong with the ring sealing so there should be no effect on engine managment. I recon he has some wires in the wrong place but cant do much from NZ the most likly is the earth wire from the block to the chassis.

there are 2 single wire plugs under the dash near the kick panel driver's side if you plug them together it will display the code of the faulty part on the check engine light count the number of flashes it will be in 2 groups like this flash, flash, flash then a 1.2 second pause and flash, flash, flash = 33 fuel injectors hope this helps

I don't know the 4ZE1 well, but if it's chrome liners/bores there should not be any honing.... Don't hone chrome liner, only cast iron. If the bores are galzed, a common occurance with lightly loaded or often left idling crome ringed, or chrome lined engines, it's nothing a good hard run won't fix. Especially if it's not long after overhaul and needs to be run in properley. I have heard at the factory a run is procedure is 1 hr at 1/4 load, 1hr at half load, and one hour at full load. change the oil and filter soon after a run in period
