I have a 94 Bighorn 3.1. There is a clicking noise coming from the front under the bonnet somewhere when going over bumps. It sounds more serious than just a rattle. Mechanic says he thinks it is a wheel bearing. However it can sometimes be heard when switching off the motor just before it stops on the last vibration. Could this be a wheel bearing when the noise is heard like this and the vehicle is stationary?

doesnt sound like wheel bearing but best check would be to lift each front wheel check for side play and rotate listening for noise. should be no sideplay and no grinding noises.Does this do this when stationary or only when moving? which side is the noise on??

Is it consistant? I had a clicking noise from the front of my MU when I first got it and it turned out to be that someone had replaced the bottom bolt on the front shock with a standard fully threaded bolt. The thread had worn down and eveytime you bounced the front suspension the bolt clicked against the eye on the bottom of the shock. Just stand on the side which you think its coming from and bounce it, to eliminate this possibility. J

Additional to other suggestions
1) Climb underneath and hit or shake the exhaust, it may be ratling on bumps etc and tapping something to give you a rattle. My old one never made a sound except on sutdown when it always give one "ting"
2) Check for stones between the gearbox and it's bashplate.
3) Kick and shake your mechanic it see if it still goes "wheel bearing"
Could this clicking be a relay?

Does the click sound happen once, twice or at irregular multiples? I expect the noise does not happen all the time. If it happens each time on shut down, lift the bonnet have a mate start and stop the unit and try to track it to a specific location.
I have seen cracks in the engine bay near shocker mounts that flexed and caused a click sound. It could not be seen or heard by bouncing the car. It was only a shock load that made the melal flex and click!.
It could be a busted engine mount. It could be AC clutch (but I doubt it).
Only guessing though.
