I searched for an old post but to no avail. I think it was Geeves who recommended a synthetic oil previously. Possibly Caltex ?

With regards to running synthetic engine oil, what does everyone think and what are your experiences? Is it a good idea, or not so good, or not overly necessary if it is being changed every 5000 k's, or what ?

If it is a good idea, what is the best synthetic oil to run in our turbo diesels, 4JG2 in particular.

It was caltex delo400 The reason I changed to it was that it was on special cheapewr than the normal oil I had been running. Synthetic oils have come down a lot in price so it is now worth running them.My engine did have a small amount of blow by before at 170000 but now theres none visable at the oil filler
