Can anyone please help with this problem. I own a 1997 Bighorn 3.1TD (engine type 4JG2) which has just past 100K and I want to change the timing belt/idler/tensioner etc. I'm having trouble getting the timing cover off, because I cannot figure out how the crankshaft pulley is removed. I can see that the crankshaft pulley is attached to the hub with 4 bolts (easily removerd) and 1 bigger centralised bolt (cannot budge). Does this center bolt need to be removed for the pulley to come off and if so how do you do it without the crankshaft just rotating. (is there a special tool to do this?) Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks Stuart

Stuart you just need to remove the 4 bolts to release the pulley. What normally occurs is the pulley is quite a tight fit on the hub and with exposure to water it tends to stick on due to corrosion. I had the same problem and resolved it using a bit of 4x2 about half a meter long placing it end on, on the edge of the pulley and giving it a few taps with a hammer. That way the wood prevents you from damaging the pulley edges and after a few good taps it will drop off. J
