Walked in the garage today and found a couple of oil drops under the wizard, had a look underneath and oil is blowing back past the engine gaurds and back down the vehicle. After removing the guards and cleaning up all the oil i fired it up to see if i could see where its coming from, you will never believe what i found. There is an oil filter like element on the left hand side just above the sump, i assume its not the oil filter because its on the right hand side (has oil filter written on it ) It seems someone has tried to remove it, crushed it and put a crease in it with a filter wrench The crease has split and is now leaking oil Now its just been in for a service at the local holden dealership and it seems strange that a couple of weeks later it sprung a leak I was wondering if anyone knows what this filter element is as the oil coming out is fairly black compared to the engine oil (not good im assuming) but this could be because the oil is coming out of the side of the filter) And i wonder if the mechanic didnt know what he was doing untill it was to late :

Yours is the 4jx1 engine isnt it (from earlier post). Im guessing but it might have somthing to do with the oil feed to the injectors. I would be getting the holden dealer to tow the vehical back to there workshop to fix hopefully at there expense . At the very least its obviously loseing a lot of oil but it could be a feed to somthing critical so I wouldnt be driving it

thanks geeves, it is a bypass filter which does feed the injectors, it started running as rough as hell when cold. Got it back into Ebbets today, they denied doing the damage but admitted they shouldnt have let it back on the road in that state, the bypass filter gets changed every 10K and the main oil filter every 5K They charged $20 for the filter so i got the labour, top-up oil and a groom for free Cant complain with that i guess It must of been the dodgy garage the dealer got to do the first service Only one more service before the warranty runs out and ill be doing it all myself after that ;D

How did you get on with the surgeing prob from your earlier post? Everything Ive read about your engine lead me to belive the oil to the injectors was unfiltered I wonder when the bypass filter was last changed

Anouther thing to get checked before the warrenty ends is wether or not you have the mod done to the o rings in the injectors that has been a recent recall on Holden source versions of this motor. It might of been done in Japan as they did the recal 2 years ago but I dont know how to tell.

Heres what ive found out so far about the recall Recall was started in 1999 by isuzu in japan, the chassis number on my wizard is on the list of engines needing upgrading but they cant find any records of it being done yet, the dealer has to wait for this info from holden Holden dont want to pick up the tab for fixing all the imported isuzus but because misubishi lost the court case when they tried to deny responsibilty for their recall, it seems as soon as the holden decision is challanged in court they will most likely lose as well, this will take approx a month to sort out The dealer has said in the event that holden wont cover the costs to fix it, they will get it done anyway so i cant lose. Apparent sympptoms are surging, engine revs high at idle and increased oil level in the sump so keep an eye on the oil, mines just been topped up from the bypass filter debacle so i cant tell yet
..... end transmission....

Youve done some good research. Where do other owners go to get the info on wether they need this done.

sorry i cant take all the credit, i just went and had a good chat to the dealer i got the wizard off, hes been doing all the phoning around and just keeping me updated when he finds out stuff. He sold alot of wizards to people so hes trying to get to the bottom of it Best place to start is the dealer and failing that ring your local holden rep
