Hi all
I didn`t know where to post this, but did it here because i think this thread is closer to the engine question&faults forums than any other ones.
Is there any way to use the compressor to inflate tyres keeping it for working the aircon ?...If there any way to do it, it`ll be fantastic. ;D
Maybe fitting some 2 ways valves in the compressor inlet. One line direct to an air filter to the inlet, and when you don`t want to use it swith the 2 ways valve, or something....any ideas ? (don`t know if Im speaking clear)
Any experience with York compressors in Isuzu engines ?
cheers

only way is to fit a second compressor. You cant change the gas at will between freon and air. Each time you change back to freon you have to fliush the whole system with nitrogen. Not a lot of room around the isuzu engine so second compressor not easy either. Ive been looking for a small aircon compressor my self to do this but obviously not looking hard enough

mmmhhh....i see, i see ....I don`t like the idea of putting a second belted compressor because the loss power thing. So I`ll have to take out the aircon and use the compressor to inlfate tyres. It isn`t big problem to me, but my passengers will protest me a lot for that. Sorry for them, but i think it is more usefull the inflator than the A/C. Also I like the idea of pneumatics tools...any chances to fit a York compressor into Isuzu engine bay?. There aren`t enough room to fit an air bottle inside it, except like the Jame`s one (made a tank with 2" bore pipe). Very good solution.

Tank doesnt have to be in the engine bay. You could mount it on the chassis rails underneath Completly out of sight and out of mind

You don't really need a tank anyways unless you are using little bits of air quite often. An air-con pump runs at just over 300psi. A mate of mine has converted his hilux one and he has a pressure bleed-off valve which opens above the set pressure. He has it set at 120psi and it starts hissing straight away!!! He runs a rattle gun off it very easily! Just remember to oil the unit often as 20% of the air-con fluid is oil to lubricate the parts of the compressor. I am thinking of converting mine as well as i want a high out put compressor to pump up tires with, so just out of interest, does aybody know how quick an arb air locker compressor will inflate tires?

The full size one is very quick. 1 to 2 min a tyre

Thanks witchdoctor, a few people do that over here with diving bottles etc, might have a look around and see what the lightest bottle is, only problem is you need a high pressure compressor to fill up the bottle again.
Geeves, i take it there are 2 different sized arb compressors?? am thinking of going this way as then i will be half way to getting a air locker anyways!!! Am going to do some inquireys into costs cause i am sick of waiting for one i have now ($80 form repco) to pump up my tires!!!

"I don`t like the idea of putting a second belted compressor because the loss power thing."
It won't be a problem as you should be engaging and disengauging the electric clutch on the compressor. So when not in use no load.

well i guess not enough space for York compressor in a non body lifted Isuzu.

HI Dave Thanks...that`s a good idea, but only for a weekend off road time. Not the best option for long trips or desert off roading where you can`t find any place to re-fill the bottle. Considering the use of air tools, 5-6 wheels to inflate and placing tyres into rims. cheers

I was wondering about the mounting of the Aircon pump under the Chassis somewhere and using a hydraulic motor to drive it from the Power steering pump
I know that a winch can be powered by this type of arrangement why not a compressor??

hey Dani, Have a look at this site myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson/default.htm if you haven't already, although its for a trooper, in my experience, most Isuzu engine bays are fairly similar. Theres some other good stuff in it too. ATB, Steve.
