I have just opened up the failed engine in my sons bighorn 3.1TD. Apart from the head being beyond repair (cracked and warped) all of the pushrods are bent. The cambelt was still intact but stretched badly and obviously slipping on cam. No valves were bent, nor any indication of damaged pistons or bent conrods. Should I just get some second hand pushrods and fit a new head and hope for the best.

I have been told that the push rods are designed to bend before the rest of the engine but I dont know how much to trust this. I would definatly change the valves and pushrods with new ones and if theres no obvious damage on the pistons etc take a chance on the rest. There is someone on trade me selling after market heads for that engine at a good price but I have had nothing to do with them so cant coment furthur
