Hi there,
I've just noticed a dip of oil form my Mu :-( It's not dripped a thing in the past with me.
What is the normal cause ? Should I be concerned ? Would it cost much to get corrected ?
Thanks.

Have you just had an oil change by any chance?
I believe that some oil can easily spill when removing the oil filter, and you might not see this drip out of the chassis/crossmember for a day or so - same happened to me after last service. A 10cm wide oil stain on my driveway, but then no further oil loss.
hope you find it whatever it is. Graham.

Unfortunately the service was about 4 weeks ago .. I'll have to have a crawl around underneath with a torch and see what I can see.

Mine had a similar leak that turned out to be the power steering box. I used the Lucas power steer stop leak product about 12 months ago and I havnt seen another drop since.
If this is not it, a degrease of under the engine, hose off and go for a drive should highlight it very quickly.
Cheers,
Peter

check around the oil filter If this is non Isuzu they have been known to come loose. otherwise its just a matter of tracing where the oil comes from It might be simple but no promises

Check the oil return pipe that fits into the bottom of the Turbo. You can see that from underneath the driverside wheel looking up past the oil filter. I also had a drip leak from the front bottom part of the motor on my 2.8 which seem to stop of its own accord. And I've never had much luck with Ryco oil filters, when I brought my 3.1 it had a Ryco which was leaking, as soon as I changed to a Nipponmax it stopped. Definitely do what Pete said and look in the obvious places afterwards. J

Well had a peek and it looks like its coming from around the oil filter .. so guess like someone mentioned, non-Isuzu filters don't fit very well The filter has a drip hanging from it at the moment, and looks like it's had oil run down from the edge .. safe bet it's the cause of evil ? There is a bit of oil around the edge of the oil sump (think that's what that bit is), but that might be run off fomr the Filter. Apart from that the engine is spotless, just the usual road dust, looks very tidy under the car as well .. quite chuffed I got a good one ;D So how do I get it tightened back up then ? And would getting the engine steam cleaned be ok ? Not going to damage anything ? Thanks!

never use the ryco brand - they can come loose very very quickly - this happened to me while offroad. Filter managed to almost rattle itself off - one full turn and it was off - lucky I had brought a nippon with me. from my experience they ryco can also just leak at the seal.
hope this helps.

Slide under the behind the driverside wheel reach your arm up and grab the filter and give it a good twist clockwise. Do this when the motor is cold cause they get rather warm with hot oil running through them. And then spray the area with degreaser and hose off. Keep an eye on it till the next change then swap for a better brand. J

I too have also found ryco filters to be a problem. Though others seem to think they are ok.
I use NipponMAX WM0319 they cost about $20.
I like these better than ryco as the lip at the bottom is not as wide and it makes them easier to get in and out when going past the torsion bar. Plus, fitted correctly they have never leaked. I change em every 5000.

I use the same as Pete, have been for years and you can see that they are better finished and they don't leak. They are also recommended by Isuzu as an alternative to genuine and you can get them at most Autoone stores for $23 odd dollars. J

I still use and swear by Sakura C1712. $13 bucks from Aussie Auto in Beenleigh. Every time I have had to use another brand of filter because they are out of Sakura, I have had oil leaks and had to retighten.
