Hey All, Took the Mu to landcruiser park last weekend camping, along with around 500km of offroad work, on a quite full on track got in a real bad position, and started to leak oil all over the place, anyway kept an eye on the levels and the leak seemed to stop once back on reasonable ground levels. Its now half a week later and i went to start it this morn. and it sounded really tired? it just kept turning over really slowly, did that for a while eventually fired up the engine. Tried again this arvo same thing but this time didnt end up starting the engine, just turned over slowly. Any ideas what could be the problem? Starter motors dead is my thought? Help Jimmy

Back before I did my engine overhaul and it was suffering from bad blowby and oil leaks out the rear main oil seal into the clutch housing i had simular symptom. On a particualy step desent where I got into trouble and was there for a while, maybe 10mins, after i was recovered I notice an oil leak and it was comming out of the starter motor. It never actually seemed to worry my starter motor but I wonder if you have a simular problem. The standard oil breather problem could cause this. Perhaps a pool of oil sitting in the bell housing then on a step slope runs into the starter motor.... the starter is not sealed from the bell housing.

Thanks guys, Turns out it was the battery, which i never expected as the drive home a few days earlier was quite long so the battery should have gained heaps of charge from that, but.....? who knows took it out had it tested and re-charged now not a problem. ;D
