Someone told me today my turbo might be on its way cause my exhaust was blowing out black smoke. I was wondering if that was true? What is the signs I should be looking out for if my turbo is about to go?

AFAIK, black smoke only means it's running rich. From what other ppl have said on this forum, a noisy turbo signifies that it's on the way, but how long it will last for is anyones guess. G.

Smoke might be oil getting past the seals but unlikely. Bad turbo would cause smoke at the same time as lack of power and overheating but pump problems also cause this. If the smoke is excessive a trip to diesel mechanic could be in order

If a diesel shop did the injectors they would most likly checked everything else before fitting the injectors Wouldnt they? ?

...and you would end up shelling out the same amount for a turbo repair kit! damn price is just outrageous...they said that the bigger the turbo, the lesser the price for the repair....turbo from our CAT dozer has undergone repair at el cheapo price!

was very obvious when the turbo let go on my old 2.8 bighorn
was driving along fine and all of a sudden there was clouds of blue oil smoke billowing out the back of the truck whenever you gave it any gas.
was about $900 to get it rebuilt as it needed new seals, bearings and a new turbine wheel
