just searching for opinions, im looking at a trade for my mu ($3500 theyll give me, bit of a rort i thought but anyway). ive been looking at this 3.0 rodeo. spacecab, its got 120000km on the clock, has bullbar, tow bar fibreglass canopy, 2nd battery, tinted windows, is pretty bloody clean throughout drives well and theyll swap the wheel and tyre of my mu over to it. they want $17000 trade. bit steep or not a bad price? whatdo you all reckon? noone in perth knows much about the mus which is why theyll only give $3500 for it

That price is fairly close to what it would sell for in NZ. Dealers have to make a profit so it doesnt sound that bad. Rodeo still qualifies for membership here

That price sounds a bit ordinary for what MU's cost to buy privately in Australia. Check out www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/vehicle/prices.php?id=110998 , that will give you some idea on what they are going for. The criteria I put in is for what mine would cost or trade in for and it is a 91 2.8TD. But I do know what you mean though, I actually purchased mine privately from Newcastle a couple of years ago, I ended up by getting it for a pretty good price being that nobody in Newcastle knew much about them either and he had trouble selling. Seems that they are much more popular in the cities on the east coast. Shame you are in Perth otherwise I would have recommended that you put it on carpoint where it would get more exposure. A private sale will definitely reap more rewards.

Have you tryed asking the dealer how much more discount you can get without the trade?

nah i havent asked if they can do it any cheaper without a trade i might try that though and see what they say. i dont think theyll budge because they have already dropped 2500 off it ( i think they were dreamin ask for 240000 or whatever they had on it)

I think thats a rip off. I don't know what cond. yours is in but mines fairly rough and I paid $5000 for it last year. I'd try a private sale first.

I'm in the process of going through this as well so would be very interested to here how you get along. Is the 17k less your MU or is your MU already taken in to the 17k ? I have looked at quite a few rodeos in the last fortnight and here in Brisbane, a tidy 2002 spacecab would be close to that money here, with a dual cab getting 19ish. Redbook is not as useful for imports here and it generally is a bit of supply and demand and very much dependant on the yard. All bar one of the yards I have visited in the last fortnight will not trade the MU. It didn't really go with their stock and I am guessing they either cant or couldn't be bothered wholesaling it. I have yet to get a figure off a yard for my MU as a trade in but I hope to get a price on Tuesday when I look at another Patrol. The Mu's are fetching good money on carpoint as deestingray said but I want to trade mine. It needs a little tidy up and by the time I spend my time and a little bit of money, it will work out about the same to me so caryard it will be. I'll drive it in, stand there with a stupid look on my face staring at it for a minute remembering the good times, give it a kiss and say goodbye. lol Hey redbull, did you buy from a yard or privately and what is it ?

just thinking about it, I know of a club member here who was offered (insulted with) the princely sum of $3,000 for a damn good 3.1 MU and that was on a 30k plus new truck. Needless to say, that nob in the caryard didn't get the trade. What it boils down to is the yard either want a MU or they dont. The other side of the coin is they either want your business or they dont. makes it tough when you see a really smick new set of wheels and they wont come to the party with your trade. As someone earlier mentioned, if you believe you can get more for your trade elsewhere, make the dealer sharpen the pencil on the deal.

that was 17000 with a trade i eventually got them to swap the wheels and new tyres with a fair bit of haggling (which i figure to be worth around 1500-2000). the 3500 trade was a bit insulting but mine had a few oil and water leaks plus some monstrous pain in the arse electrical fault which i couldnt be bothered fixing or paying to have fixed. i think if had have sold it when i was still living in newcastle i probably would have got 5000 or more for i reckon. since living in perth(going on 9 months now) ive only seen one other mu on the road and one in a car yard (which incidently had started at 11000 and is now down to 7000 i think the last time i last saw it). i would have probably felt like an arse if i personally sold a car to someone and lied about it being in A1 condition. 3500 was alot better than the 2000 i was offered by some no hoper
