I have just failed a warrant for my spot lights so I had to pull the fuse out to pass. My spots are high intensity 100watters that the previous owner fitted, not the original fog lights. They are wired up a standard though on the dash button which is great for fogs but not really spots and can be operated with the headlights on high and low beam which is why they failed. For me, I think it would be a great idea for them to be wired to high beam only so I don't have to thumble for the switch to turn them off as well as the dip when driving gravel back roads and really blinding someone. Is there any simple way to change the wiring so they just operate on high beam only. Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the fuse box?
Cheers

can you fail for that now ? wasnt it changed so that they had to be on their own wiring so you could turn on "in bad conditions only"... if not ( if have heard.... cough cough ) that you take the fuse out when you go for a warrent.. no issue then, they cant fail you as they didnt work when you got there..

spot lights are driving lights and are only allowed to operate on high beam Fog lights are only for fog and only allowed to operate on dip. Taking the fuse out doesnt realy cut it as if an accessory is fitted it must work. I dont know how this fits in with all those high mount lights on wanabe 4wds Maybe they take the bulbs out and tell the wof man they are refelctors

I have wired up my spots using the factory switch, but i'm too tired to think how just now, basically i spend half an hour or so with a multimeter finding out which wire was the high beem one coming down the steering columb, then taped into this and used it as the power supply for the switch, switch light as well, then did all new wiring including relay, and the power supply comes straight off the battery. Let me know if you want more details.

I've been pulled up by my preffered WOF guy, I trust him, like he doesn't try to do a moving handbrake stop in my MU, rather the hold on slope test. Anyway he pulled me up for having spots AND fog lights. He got the WOF book out and showed me. At the time, about two years ago it spcificily said a maximimum of FOUR lights FITTED, excluding park lights, if I remember rightly. You should aready have two factory fitted, so have an add on later limit of two. So these lights bars on roofracks with four MUST not be to WOF standard as well as failing DIP tests. (New Zealand WOF)
Mu Lover, I tapped into the high beam wire wiring behind the headlamp to drive a relay, thus the high current stuff is a short path from the battery to relay behind headlamp and onto spots. Then if desired run low current relay "enable" wire to a switch on the dash.

It used to be acceptable to have roof lights if they were not connected ie wires removed so everyone just made a plugable harrness to them and unplugged them and tucked away the wireing for a wof. I belive this is no longer acceptable but its interesting because the jeep cherikee sport has a factory accessory lamp bar that bolts to the roof with good size spots fitted. Just about every one of these in Wn has this bar

Damit!! i must do everything the hard way!!
I had 2 pair of spot lights on the front of mine and they past them a few times, but they would only go on high beam, i think you should be allowed to have what you like as long as they only go on high beam.

"i think you should be allowed to have what you like as long as they only go on high beam."
I couldn't agree more, you can change the wattage of the factory fitted lamps but not allowed to fit more. Plus you should never be pointing towards anyone when on high beam so wheres the problem if wired high beam only?
