OK, here's the story so far. Last week I got home from work to be advised that the passenger window on our 1989 Bighorn 5 Door had decided to not go up any more. All the windows in it have had quirks for some time (passenger window would only go up from the drivers switch panel, R/H rear door was faster going up from the drivers door switches). But the passenger window just decided not to go up at all any more. Soooooooo, out with the multimeter for a check of what was happening, 12.6 volts showing leading to the regulator motor when switched to the appropriate position on the door thought it must be a internal problem in the regulator motor. After pulling out the regulator and stripping the motor off it, I had a look at stripping the motor, only to find it was a mostly sealed unit. As an after thought I tried making a couple of temp leads to be able to reverse the wiring from switch to motor, this of course provided the desired effect, a window motor that was winding the correct way So tonight it was put all the bits I had stripped back in to return to where I started from last week I am now looking for suggestions on where to look from here, I am picking it has something to do with reverse switching, possibly a relay set some where?? I have traced this control to the passenger kick plate, but when I stripped it I found another sealed unit. These photos show the unit I am talking about. I was hoping to find some switching relays that I could clean out or check the contacts in. Any help would be much appreciated.

Normally its the door switch at fault. This has 2 change over contacts in it so at rest the motor conects via the idle contacts so the drivers switch works. When the door switch is set up or down the contacts conect the motor directly in whatever direction is needed. Same happens in the drivers switch, Try swaping the switch with one from any other door to proove. Ive had to do this in the middle of a car park in the rain after one of my nice kids wound down a window that then wouldnt go up.

Cleaning these contacts is one of those jobs best not done in a hurry. Use very fine emery paper and be carefull not to bend the contacts otherwise they dont work till you bend them back to the exact right place. Once you clean them they dont come with a garentee any more One I cleaned has done 4 years the other I had 4 attempts at in 6 months It works now but is still a littlle dodgy and been like that 2 years. There is a trick getting at the contacts Best done by folding the emery into a narrow strip feed it into the end of the contact then apply a little pressure and pull the emery out. Repeat a few times and then a little blow to get out any dust. Has anyone ever tryed to fit manual winders from an earlier model?

All I can say is, you the man geeves!I started by swapping the L/H rear door switch onto the offending passenger door and hey presto, a window that goes up and down ;D So I tried the crook switch on the L/H rear door and it was slow down, and no up, so onto the next geeves suggestion, and the fine wet and dry onto both sides of the contacts, 1Hr later and I now have a L/H rear window that goes up and down, not 100% but its 200% better than not at all Bloody rapt with the result ;D ;D ;D
