Hi There all, heres one for you thats got me well and truly stumped. 1990 Bighorn 4jb1 TB automatic has new $480 Alternator and engine relay. When I got given this vehicle it had a dead battery and no diesel so I got another battery and some diesel pumped the fuel pump a few times and away she went. Once I got it home I noticed no stop lights, checked fuse it was blown replaced fuse blew again I then noticed that the blue fuseable link from alternator had burnt through replaced fuse link, alternator (as it was stuffed over charging) and engine relay. Runs sweet as now, more power, better breaks due to new vacuum pump, the auto even seems to be better. However still blowing stop lamp fuses. Done a wire trace from back to front looking for shorts found one from where they had cut stereo out and was shorting on to the steel stereo casing in dash. Thought I had found it replaced STP/LMP fuse went for a drive and after 5 mins fuse blew again. Dose anyone know if there is perhaps a break light relay? ??

All tail lights wireing etc has been taken out and checked for shorts or breakages none its got me stuffed gonna pay for the auto sparky to look over it for an hour before it dose my head in.

I havent got the diagrame handy but are the reverse lights fed from the same fuse. Do the reverse lights work before and after ther fuse blows?

stick your head under the truck and have a look at the hydrostatic switch which tells the electronics when the truck is put in reverse ( it will look alot like a bung but have two wires coming out of it). in the event of a gearbox/engine removal/swap or overhaul or negotiating rough terrain will some times cause damage to the loom. this is more common than you may think.

Hi thanks for all the replys. Sparky couldnt find it ened up running new wire from switch to the back loom I suppose. Dose the maual model have the hydrostatic switch aswell? As I have two of these beasts now an auto and a maual I must say the auto dose feel a bit smoother than the stick. But what they hell I luv em.
