During a wet muddy trip last weekend my dashboard warning lights started coming on intermittantly and the heater fan stops when the lights come on.Suspect the alternator is full of mud or muddy water.Any thoughts on anything else being the problem?I'm going to change the alternator this week. Thanks,Harry.

Mine does the lights thing too, but not the heater thing. I sprayed silicon lube on and around the fuse box in the engine bay and it has seemed to help, they only come on in very deep water now, Any lubricant stuff that puts a film over electrical contacts should help.

mud in the alternator will do that as well as water. If it only comes on while wet its not a problem yet. If it stays on then you have problems. Running the car in this state can burn out the stator windings so its a good idea to disconect the alternator. Mines done this twice. First time it was a new alternator ($750 + 1.5 hours labour) second time a month later just labour as the alternator was so full of mud that the brushes couldnt touch anything. 2 hour drive home with no alternator and no way for light or air to pass through the radiator is fun esspecialy as you watch the sun setting and you still have an hour to go
