Does anyone have any info on the wiring for the central locking system in a 92 Bighorn? I'm trying to install an alarm system, but I can't work out the wires for the locking system. Any ideas??

I'm trying to remember for yoy how I did mine... the main points are the drivers door is the master often without a motor. so, you need to get a door switch motor, Jaycar was the best local deal. A simple test, manually unlock the passenger door... if the drivers door lock doesn't chnage it's not motorised. www.jaycar.co.nz Master Door Lock Actuator $14, Dick Smith can help but it's a 4 door set at $$$$$. On my MU I found the door actuator controller behind the passenger door left side kick panel. firgue out which wires from the drivers door initate a passenger doorlock/unlock and tap in the alrams lock/unlock wires to those... and bingo, the passenger door will then lock/unlock by the alarm, next step find the wires going to the passenger door motor/actuator and parallel them up accross to the new actuator in the drivers door. You will need to run wires accross the vehicle and into the doors for this. if you get the drivers door actuator wries around the wrong way the drivers door will unlock and the passenger lock... which is in turn controlled by the drivers and is thus stuck in a oscillating loop... or may just half work. Cheers, James

The drivers door does have an actuator, so no worrys there. The problem I have is not knowing how to work out the wires. The reason I'm doing the install myself is the only auto sparky in town wanted to charge me $500 for the install!! So if you can give me some pointers on working out which wires do what that would be great, I also need to know whether I have a postive polarity system or a negative polarity system, as there are two different ways to wire in the central locking system.

Ok so need for a drivers door actuator thats good, however we can for finding the wires treat it as the master switch, by whatever method you can, find the wires onto the drivers door actuator switch.... pull the panel off the door and find the switch and wires, or take a stab at it and assume the wirse must go though the door cable loom at the hinge, pull of the drivers right side kick panel near the hinge and you should be able to with a tourch see where a cable loom goes through to the door hinge. there will be two wires in that loom one each for lock/unlock from the switch.... don't confuse with the motor wires. Now the hard part figuring it out.... behind that kick panel and in the cable loom there should be a multiway connector, if you have a test lamp or multimeter you should be able to probe in the back of the connector to make contact with the crimps inside the connector. Now the harder part ... which wires?.... with one lead on the chassis get and the other lead on a wire/connection get a mate to manually lock and unlock the drivers door slowly... basicly look for a change.. apply some logic like... such as that wire is live when unlocked then it's either the unlock wire from the master switch or the motor unlock drive wire.... then step through all the connetions untill hopefully it all makes sense.... then tap your alarm in :-)
P.S. I think the motor wires will be a short pulse say 1 second at the most.. the switch wires will be static if the lock is static

Cheers for the info James. I'll give it a go tomorrow (Fri) and hopefully find out which wire is which, I'll post the results tomorrow night (all going well!) ;D

Ok worked it all out and got it all to work! ;D However the central Locking Controller is behind the passenger side kick panel, not the driver's side, but I just listened to where the clicking was coming from and soon found it! Lastly for future reference the locking system in a '92 Irmscher Bighorn is a Negivtive (-) Pulse System! Which means the lock wire is live when unlocked!! I know it sounds dumb but thats the way it seems to work!! Thanks for your Help!
