In last couple weeks my Mu burned 3 diferent "charge/warning" relys (only blue colour one in the fuse box), so I went to se auto electrician to find the couse of it. Car works ok except warning lights on dashboard ( alternator, water separator and fuel tank reserve) are ON with engine runing and air con fan does not work.If I disconect the rely ,air con fan works but warning lights are off.In both cases alternator charges OK(acording to batery gauge on the dashboard). Autoelectrician faund that alternator is playing up and it needs to be replaced. He reckons rodeo 2.8 alternator will fit but it costs $400 au + Is anyone familiar with this problem,or is it any other solution to replace mu's alternator with. I have found used 3.1 mu alternator for $150 but it looks diferent (can that one be used on 4jb1 ?). Any help will be much appreciated
P.S. I forgot to tell you, every time relys been burned on freeway at constant engine speed of 3000 revs.

Mate, how does it 'look' different? Im 99% sure that when I changed my engine over from 2.8 to 3.1 that I used the newer 3.1 alt, the connections and plug are the same.
I dont think you would have any trouble using the 3.1 alt. Anyway why can the Auto elec just fix yours or is that in the 'too hard' basket for him. Then again, $150 is prop cheaper than the labour he would charge!
Goodluck!
Matt.

Electrician sad rebuilding of diesel altis is "hard"(read ; expensive) couse they have builtin vaccum pump,so it is alot easier to buy new one and price is about same.

I have found used 3.1 mu alternator for $150 but it looks diferent (can that one be used on 4jb1 ?). Any help will be much appreciated Hi. I have Mu (UCS55DW, simple 4JB1). My altenator is not original. This russian altenator from our "bag with bolts" GAZ 3110 "Volga" and such as original altenator, gives 12V, but... last time, become start to burn flares. F.e., when 25-30 degrees of frozen are big problem start 4jb1, but seems it not such important. I lookin for a voltage on flares, when diesel start. Voltage, after starting, down to zero. I.e. flares does not working as need. Normally, voltage on flares must stay 10-20 sec after starting diesel. May be this problem consist in block of commutation (near box with relys). By the way, anybody have electrical scheme on 4jb1 2. ? thanx.

Hi Team,The warning lamp check relays are being destroyed by the alternator. Most Isuzu have Hitachi alternators fitted which are pron to fail in many ways. The rectifier which has one or more diodes may have failed and or the rotor windings have shorted between turns giving a higher than normal rotor current for the IC v/regulator to work with. The rotor may overheat and eventually short to ground taking out the IC voltage regulator.Prior to this the unit may over charge, over heat and destroy itself and or the battery and anything else which is voltage senative ie. lights, electronics. The rectifier(diode block assembly) inside the alternator is a non serviceable item so either get the auto electrician to rebuild your unit or purchase another new or rebuilt unit. Moral of the story fit a good quality volt meter and read it regularly, check the battery electrolite frequently for signs of overcharging.Yes you will have to look under the hood. Good luck. ciao

Thanks Giovanni Last saturday my alty finaly gave up.Same evening I pulled alty out and folloving morning (sunday) went to local spare parte store to see what they have to offer.Their electrician examined alty and sad it needs rebuilding which can be done same day and will cost $220 +gst, or he can sale me new rodeo one which is 70 amps(my original was 50 amps NOT 55 amps). I had look at new 70 A one and it looked as straight bolt in so $350 and 1 1/2 hours after my mu had brand new 70 A alty. Next thing was charge relay.Usualy I pay $48 for genuine isuzu one at holden dealers. This time I bought aftermarket one for $20 at same local store. Both, alty and relay, work fine since than. Here are details of relay; CAR SHOW RELAY IT 8-94235-627-0 MR 5A-211-1 12 81012H Dragan
