I know I have posted a fair few of these types of threads recently, but I'm paranoid, and you guys always have something really helpful to say.
Turning right, at suburb speeds 15-40km/h (have noticed mostly on round-a-bouts). There is a sound that seems like it comes from the right rear wheel/tyre. It sounds like a groan, almost like running a finger down a wet piece of rubber.
Has gotten worse since I got stuck in the mud and most of the underneath was covered in it (some still is).
Leaf spring rubber bushings? Irregular tyre noise? Steering linkage? Brakes?
Andy

Could be due to a Limited Slip rear diff, causing the inner tyres to rub or slip slightly on the road surface. More noticeable turning right as that is the side you are sitting on. Mine makes odd noises depending on the road surface when turning relatively tight corners (roundabouts etc) especially when road dry and very hard surface. Doesn't do it in the wet because is easy for the tyres to slip slightly. This could explain the noise, anyone got any other ideas???

It's not an LSD .... yet ;D
What pressure should my 31x10.50xR15 BFG A/T's be at?
I put them at 32psi for on-road and there is a small bulge on them...

30 - 32 is about right. Look for rub marks on your tyres (all 4 noises dont alway come from where they sound like they are coming from) My money would be on spring bushes but best to check anyway More likly if it has urathane bushes

If yes, then it could be them, mine don't look too healthy (cracked & squished). Can I replace these without getting new leaf packs? Would a place like Repco be able to help me out?

Easy to change but you need 2 good jacks and axle stands. Get the rubber bushes in preferance to urathane They are quiter and last better used off road Also they allow the spring to twist which on a boy racer car is bad but on a 4wd is very good. Under 100 for the 4 sets at the back and the 2 sets at the front although these dont wear as much but can be pains to change

I checked all the guards tonight, nothing rubs at full steering lock.
Also gave the rear then front suspension a work out, just on a flat surface, not moving. No noise other than the shocks (makes me wonder if it is the spring bushes?).
Outside edges of the front tyres are wearing quicker than the rest (normal steering wear?). Will be doing a tyre rotation in August.
Any body have any ideas for testing to try and find the problem, or ideas on what it could be?

sometimes having a second set of ears in the car that can be moved round to locate the noise helps. Try spraying some crc on the spring bushes. If it fixes it you know the problem although you still have to fix properly. Some brake pads do make noises when cornering but this would be impossible to diagnose on a forum

hey andy did you track down this noise? sounds like what ive just started to noitce in my mu, sounds like the rear drivers side wheel? almost like the tyer rubbing on something but its not?
i thinking you could be right geeves might be brake pads, but would it make the noise when not braking. the back brakes have been making funny noises lately.... but nothing like this?
seemed no do it mainly on a slight a uphill climb 40-70kmh and maybe turning slightly too?

No... I never found out what it is... I notice it maybe twice a week... Usually only when turning, and at low speeds such as intersections or round-abouts. I think it's the brake pads or like geeves said, a suspension bush somewhere ... But I'm not a mechanic, and noone else has heard it, so I might be completley off. I know my leaf spring bushes look pretty shagged ... Keep me informed with any updates Sorry I couldn't help more.

i HAVE THE SAME NOISE AT ROUNDABOUTS, CHECK THE FRONT HUBS ARE RELEASEING FULLY BECAUSE THEY CAN DRAG AND CREATE A NOISE THAT TRAVELS THROUGH THE WHOLE VEHICLE. ALSO CHECK FRONT DRIVE SHAFT UNIVERSALS ARE WELL GREASED. GOOD LUCK!

I've had a similar noise in my Mu for most of the time I've had it (6 years) and I think that it comes from the rear brakes. It only does it to me first thing in the morning during light braking with a bit of steering lock on (forwards and backwards). I think that it is the pads settling down after hand brake use back to their normal postion. It first started when I changed from the original brake pad compound. Nothings ever fallen off or broken so it cant be too big of an issue.

I had that when useing silverline pads on the back. They worked well but terrible noise in reverse. I have been told that this can be cured by champhering the edges of the pad but never tryed. If you want to try remember that a lot of pads still contain asbestos so not wise to breath while fileing the pad

I'd say rear bushes like Alan has already said. I had this noise also and it would only happen when on the move, could not replicate it when stopped shaking the car.
Change the bushes at the rear the are very cheep, I think I paid $8 a side from Supercheep, make sure they are rubber!!!
