You have a 4WD I take it? Very hard question to answer without knowing why you have a 4WD... are you towing? Are you just taking the kids to school? Are you going to lower it and race up and down your local main road on friday nights? An all-round very good tyre is the BFG all-terrain... high km's, quiet and sticky... you pay for them, but they are worth it. Steve

I'm on Yokohama Geolander - 245/70x16. Mostly 'on road', plus a bit of gravel and paddock grass. I'm happy with wear, noise and grip. If you need handling, get an mx5 !!

For a road tyre you would have to go a long way to beat the Firestone RV These have a very square pattern but work well. Also regularly on a very good special price. For all terrane theres about 10 worth recomending but if you stick to brands you know you wont go wrong I would probably chose either the Cooper discorverer or the Goodyear Wrangler At. For general mud I have used the Firestone RMT and the GT Savero but also consider the Maxis 853 the Goodyear MTR and the Cooper. I know people also happy with the new Pirele. For real mud there is only Simex or Super Swamper if you can afford them and Motorway Mongrol or Fedima SAT if you cant. Dont expect to use this last set much on the road. There are also some other specialised tyres that realy suit only one type of driving so best left out of this post
