about 3 weeks ago i was driving around and noticed that when i was turning there was a funny feeling in the steering wheel. when i had got to my destination i looked under the bonnet for anything rubbing agaisnt any steering parts but then realised that p/s fluid was leaking from the pump. i went inside and came out 20 mins later and noticed about a 20cm pool of fluid on the ground i then checked the the fluid level and then drove it home. i got home and pulled the pump of to realise that the bearing had had kinda like fell apart and the seal on the shaft was no good (thats where it was leaking from). well that arvo i went into repco. and they said it would cost me $96 for a seal kit with no bearing or $830 for a new pump with 6 months warenty. the next day i went to a few p/s places aroung brissy and i went to skf for a bearing which cost $6.10 and a seal kit cost $21.50, the guy told me that its a hard job but its not and i was like like wtf. but i thought i would give it a go cos its only $27. where as he wanted to charge $310 to rebuild with 3 month warrenty. it took 15 mins to rebuild and its really quite simple its been going great ever since. i thought i would post this up as its seems a common problem and this is a cheap solution to it.

Do you have the part numbers or did you just take in the bits?

The pump is effectively a mirror image of the Subaru legacy pump and uses all the same parts. 1 thing to watch as this happened to mine is that you make sure the pulley is tight. Mine came loose and stripped the spline on the shaft and pulley before making a single sound. Nearly impossible to undo the nut on the shaft as nothing to hold onto Even harder to get a replacement pulley. Holden wanted 300 Wreckers wouldn't take a pulley off the pump. I eventually got one from a fire damaged Mu where the pump had melted off of the shaft

i do realise taking the pulley off is a pain but i just wedged a screwdriver in on of the holes in the pulley and had it up against one of the 3 bolts under it.
the part numbers are the following:
bearing: item 6202-2RS desription 6202-2RSH that cost me $6.12 from skf archerfield
seal kit: part number 65.713 cost me $20.99 from driveline services - archerfield but this was to suit a rodeo TF 2.6L. i was rather anoyed but i just wanted to get my mu back on the road. the kit replaced all seals though and had a few left over.
hope this is help to people as im one of these people that fixs things myself as i dont like paying people to work on my car.

I would prefer to pay someone to be honest. No time these days. But the $600 changeover I was last quoted got my back up. If only there was a decent mechanic that would do things at a real hourly rate without the oh you drive an import everything is expensive for those... Jimmy P.S. Thanks

rodeo is probably the same pump the scewdriver method didnt work on mine as the shaft was turning inside the pulley and the nut had been locktighted

The pump is the same on all diesel Isuzus. The even better news is that the rebuild kit is the same as Subaru Legacy/Liberty. You cant use that pump tho

Ok, Just did my pump.
Its on my 3.1l 4JG2 (1996 MU) and the bearing number is 6203 LU. there are a few different types but the numbers are enough to get you the right one. It cost the whole of $8.40
I ran into some issues with removing and replacing the bearing so i took it to my local marine place and they used a manual press which showed that it was stuck quite well :S
most local places should press it out no stress and 5mins of thier time.
all in all very easy system and the total of 4 bolts holding the housing together and 3 that hold the bracket on.
with the nut on the fly wheel mine was extreemly tight but after quite a bit of heat came off easy as.
my local rebuild man suggested starting costs for rebuild @ $400 and i had to remove the pump.
also phone heaps of wreckers and none had anything and new was just a crazy price!
hope this helps
