One problem they had though was the caliper hit the inside of the rims so they had to gring the top of the calipers right back bloody pajeros . what combination works well for 4wding? cheers jarrad

If the wof man sees grinding marks on a brake calliper you wont get a wof ever again. It would be much better to get more offset on the rim. You currently have 16 inch rims which limits the choises but your tyres will be equivilent to a 30.5 x 10.5 inch tyre You can fit 285/70/16 tyres but the extra width might be an issue or change to 15 inch rims then 32 inch tyres will fit without mods or 33 with a small lift. Dont go wider that 12.5 which is still borderline exessive. The mudzila is an interesting tyre and very good in mud of all types Its a virtual copy of the Baja Claw which has caused a few issues on side slopes though.

I seem to remember you are from Chch - if you haven't already got a good deal give Kaiapoi Tyres a call - they do alot of tyres for the Canterbury clubs at good prices. Ask for Shane. A thought though on maxxis muds. Very popular last year and quite alot of clubmates bought them - flavour of the month for a bit there and as good as anything off road. But number of clubmates comment now they wear fairly quickly - aren't doing big mileages.
If you're buying for both on and off-road use, check a few other good brands. I use Hankook RTO1 muds (had several sets) and my current set (32"s)have done 34000km and have used only 4.5mms of their 14mm tread. Amazing for a not too expensive tyre. I believe others have also had good experience with other makes.
At $1000+ for each new set of rubber, its good to get value - something that will last, esp if you are trading them off when the tread gets down to about 8mm when their traction loses its bite.

If you need a hand getting a good tyre deal - give
