Hey all
I returned yesterday from a long trip and 2k's from home the steering started playing up. It will turn the first 1/4 of a turn ok, but then becomes solid (bloody scary!!!), you can turn the rest of the way but it is very hard.
It isn't leaking any fluid and all the belts are ok. I have plenty of spare parts, but I would like to know what to look for or the best place to start.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I had mine do this a couple of times after I rebuilt it, I think it was the recirculating ball bearings finding their place again (one of the damn hardest thing I have ever put back together). In you case if you haven't rebuilt it, maybe the ball bearings are worn and jaming... Cheers Yarno

Thanks for the info.
As it happens I have found the fault. Somewhere in the past someone cross-threaded one of the two bolts that mount the pump the block, subsequently this bolt has fallen out and all the pressure has been put on the remaining bolt. Not surprisingly it wasn’t long before it sheared off.
The reason I didn’t spot it the first time is the pump was resting on the hose connections and keeping tension on the belts.
Cheers
