If I am removing my Aircon - what the hell do i do with the power steering belt? do i just measure around then 2 pulleys with a piece of string and go in and ask for a belt that is that length or what? Has anyone else removed A/C or P/S belts and gone for the 2 pulley system to get less hp loss or

Why remove the air con. If its not working or unneaded convert it into a tyre pump. It will be the best tyre pump you ever own. If you do remove the aircon or modify get an aircon place to remove the gas for you. It will save you the cost of removeing the gas in lower suntan lotion costs. The pump hardly uses any power when not turned on so the savings wont be as much as you hope but the best way would be as you say to measure with a bit of string

Mine has never had the air con fitted. Must be about the only Mu in existance to not have air con. No sun roof, no air con and black, fun on a hot day..... Anyway it never had the aircon so it had a factory fitted idler pulley and only one belt. Half the load so half the belts... just the power steer pump. I however removed mine a couple years ago and fitted into it's place a air compressor. See my webpage for details. I still have the idler puller and mount.

As geeves said...use the compressor to inflate tyres.

Im still useing my aircon so havnt done this myself. All you need is some pipe with the correct fittings A presure switch that turns the pump off at around 80psi and a small resivoir tank. Theres plenty of info on the internet just use google for ideas James in CHCH has his setup here jamesw.kicks-ass.net/4wd/mods/AirCompressor/index.htmlno tech info but easy pics. His was slightly different as his didnt have air con new but the princible is the same
