My 4JB1T pick produces greyish white smoke at start up in the morning and this persists until 4th and 5th gear have been engaged. The same type of smoke is produced intermittently and briefly (about 1 second) when the engine relaxes when going downhill. When this happens the engine feels like it is misfiring if it was petrol and loses power just for that moment. This is not common unless one goes downhill. Any pointers as to the problem.

First thing in the morning I would of said its just the cold weather but I see your in South Africa. Does the smoke smell like dieseel or steam. If steam you could have a bad head gasket if diesel look at your injectors

hi kb280dtza as what geeves said reason being my work truck had the same symptoms but idled & ran rough as if it were running less 1 cylinder. also hoofed out white/gey(grey) smoke. ;D I drove it to the mechanics where he loosened each injector line (while the truck was idling), as each one was loosened the idle became rougher almost stalling, until he came to the bad injector when he loosened the feed line to this one there was no change to the idle?. so we pulled it out & low & behold the spring was broken. so i was wandering this may have some bearing with your problem? When was the last time your pump & injectors where serviced?. cheers muvit
