Now the tow bar on the MU is 1250kg . Max, ball download 80kg. I think my tow ball on the CT is about 85kg, so Iam not legal there but ok with weight of trailer probably 800kg max. Now the Wizards tow bar has two plates on it one for a Jackaroo which reads 2500kg and 250kg ball rate then the other reads for a Frontera 1600kg and 80kg ball rate. Now I know the Wizard is a Frontera with a different motor, but are the chassis the same as the Jackaroo? With that tow ball rate we are lucky to be able to tow a garden trailer. Anyone looked in to this? Cheers Bruce.

Yea... The standard isuzu tow bar and ball is a waste of time, my Mu was rated as you said above, 1250kg/80kg.... so i got a tow bar made up for my Mu that has 3 mounting points on each side.. The tow bar is now rated at 3.5 ton (so i can tow my boat ). not much i could do about the Ball rating though.. Just put on a heavy duty 1..

What is the MU rated to tow?
I have been asked a couple of times about for the one I am selling.
I would not think it would get anywhere near 3.5T no matter what the tow ball rating.

When I bought a towbar at Aranda Towbars, I was told that manufactureres details were not available, however the "Industry" determined that manual MU's were good for 1500kg braked trailers, and auotomatics OK for 1800kg braked. During research for towbars, I was offered Jackaroo towbars (rated 2 tonne) from 3 suppliers, however the drivers side bracket needed cutting off and re-welded at an angle to suit the MU, and this voided all warranties. Aranda supplies a towbar specially made at what I found to be a reasonable price if fitted by owner. Cheers Ian

If the specs are not available does it mean if you have a 2T rated bar you can tow that much legally?
I know I have towed that much before easily but what you can do and what you can legally do are often two differnt things.

If your tow bar is rated 2 ton you can legally tow anything up to 1 and 1/2 ton( may be little more), which is why i have a 3.5 T rated tow bar, I can legally tow anything up to 2.5 ton on a tandem braked trailer. (my boat is 2.5 ton). There is other things they will take into account such as rear shock set up, engine size, auto or manual, vehicle brake system and of coarse where your mounting points for your tow bar are. If your lucky the inspector will tell you everything is strong enough to tow the max weight your bar is rated to. As far as i know this is the same standard all over the world. Please correct me if im wrong..

Our problem is with the tow bar manufacturer, if stamped say 2000kg but has a BALL WEIGHT of 80 kgs your stuffed. David (Pig 75) and I had a good yak about this the other day and he enlightened me as far as the spec plates go on the Wizard (read top thread) where it say Frontera was for that year 1996 which was/had a 2 litre petrol motor.....Wizard has same as Jackaroo 3.1TD. So for it I will sort with insurance coy, but MU don't know yet, see if Wizard two bar fits and do mods to improve it for both vehicles. Cheers Bruce.
