Is that a hole in the side of the turbo or just oil? Was it the turbo or something more sinister?

The intake side of the turbo housing has split around approx half its diameter when the the shaft snapped and the rotor? exploded !

hopefully the engine didnt ingest the blades otherwise this could be a real nasty repair. Is the engine still running ok (considering the lack of boost)? I had my hand on what looked like a near new turbo at pickapart 4 months ago and considered buying it but couldnt justify the $100 at the time. It long gone now. good luck on the repairs

No the intercooler stopped that ;D Motor still runs but I had to pull the glowplugs and wind the motor over by hand to get the oil out of the cylinders, after that it started and ran sweet - although there was an awesome amount of smoke until it settled down again

Hey Muvit, I was running 18 lb at the time. The reason it blew was that there is a plate behind the impeller on the intake side that is held with screws......And one came loose and clipped the impeller witch then shattered and tried to remove the housing all in one go. I am told that this is not so unusual with these turbos I have replaced it with a modified 3.1 turbo that uses a totally different system. It matches my 3" exhaust very well and gives a strong and smooth power from about 1800 rpm all the way to 4000 rpm much better than the std exhaust. buy the way just out of interest last week my waste gate jammed on the old turbo. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it but the Mu got up to 28 lb of boost for a second!! Man do they fly then ;D By the way your Mu troll is awesome Keep up the good work !

Hi roga 28 lb wow luckily only momentarily otherwise you might have leaned your donk out. Still 18 lb must go like dem boy racer cars nice.. obviously you've opened the fuel pump up to accommodate the extra boost? as i'm only runnin 14 but capable of much more until i learn how to tweak the pump myself?. I think there's a thread somewhere that mentions how but i'm yet to go on the hunt for it btw is that a old warn high mount winch i see & a catch can to boot? Is it worth posting any pics of the 3"... cheers muvit
