If you are talking Mus you will be very lucky to find the 3.0 model in Aus. They started production with that motor in 98 and really didnt start getting to the Jap auctions till after the Aussi rules changed preventing there import. I wouldnt touch any pre 2004 3.0 engine due to major injector issues which may or may not of been fixed on the vehicle you buy. The 3.0 Mu is almost the same as the frontera sport but with the diesel engine.

Hi, great bit of info - ta. Which engine would you recommend out of the 2.8 and 3.1? Is there much difference in performance? - Glenn

both good engines I prefer the 2.8 as it is direct injection, slightly more ecconomical and not as prone to overheating as the 3.1.As the 2.8 was replaced in 93 with the 3.1 most are getting fairly old now However the 3.1 is slightly more powerfull but more importantly produces its power lower down the rev range. Its rare to fine a manual 3.1 but they do exist When you find one get it checked by a competant diesel mechanic and you should be right with either engine. Both will clear 400000km with proper maintenance possibly a lot more

I was so lucky to buy a 3.1LTD Isuzu Mu 1994 Manual. It is metallic blue. I love it, and have doen heaps to get all the filters and belts doen. And I'm buying a new Radiator and Turbo very soon as the old ones are 2 old. The radiator top has a small leak in it and the Turbo is on its way out. After this is done I'm thinking of doing a 2 1/5" straight through exhaust system. Isuzu's don't die, unless u Crash or Don't look after them! I got mine on 217 342km and its got 254 800km something on it now! Turbo still original!!! Cheers Jacques

Wow Jacques,
22" rims with low profile tyres - now that's a different look for a MU. Any pictures ?

There are a few Mus around NZ on similar setups. They look quite nice but not as muscular as the normal setup. If the wagon is being used purely on road then why not. The Mu makes an excellent tow car and even as a daily driver its cheaper to run than a comadoor
