Hey people, Has anyone had any experience with the catch cans sold on Trade Me for the 2.8 & 3.1 Isuzu motors? I have an can on my Mu that is plumbed from the rocker cover to the can and then back to the usual place on the pipe between the air filter and the turbo. It also drains back to the sump via the dipstick tube. It still smokes on startup. What I basically need to know is is this other system going to work better than what I already have and is it worth the money he is asking for it ?
Thanks Roger

If its not going through more than a tiny amount of oil your system is working fine. All diesels smoke on startup esspecialy cold due to cold fuel. If its smokeing too much with a catch can it could be injectors, or valve guides neither of which are helped by the catch can. How much visable fumes are comeing out of the breather. The trademe setup is good but if yours is setup like you say and the can is about a liter in size then yours may or may not look as good but will work as well. You can fill the can with a medium mesh to help catch a little more oil if you want

The other system wouldn't make any difference as what you have sounds like a very good system.
My guess it that your valve stem seals are getting a bit tired and are letting a little oil seep down into the cylinders ready to burn off on startup. Not something to get too concerned about however but it is possible to change then in situ provided you can stop the valve falling into the cylinder by using thin rope into the cylinder or by pressurising it.
