I was set to buy a Mu, but got talked out of it because i'm under 25 and got told insurance would cost a mint as well as spare parts having to be imported. Instead i bought a Toyota 4Runner, which goes alright but i still want a Mu. So has anyone done this upgrade or know about insurance for under 25s? Cheers.

Well I guess you talked to people who dont know what they were talking about!!
Insurance is no worse or better than any other equal 4x4. I think from most giuys on this forum, the best is DGA and that ranges from $400 - $600 for fully comprehensive, even for mine when I was under 25. (Torque underwriting)
Parts are all in Aust or NZ with just about nothing having to be imported and because these are brought in for wreaking as well, there are heaps of second hand parts. Dont get me wrong they are no dime-a-dozen Toyota with 10 spares in every 2 horse town, but we certainly dont have to import any of our parts!
Just goes to show how ill-informed you can be when you talk to 'experts' about something they know nothing about! Oh BTW expert is really an abbreviation for 'ex' as in past tense or 'has been' and 'spert' is a drip under pressure!!!
Good luck with your change over, power and capability way over a 4Runner and none of the Surf reliability problems!!
Matt.

Well Stupes, YOU got stuped!!
Looks like some people were telling you porky pies (lying). I guess they got jealous when said you wanted a MU, I would have! As already stated by Matt, parts are not a real problem, the MU can easily be fixed from a variety of other vehicle makes as well as wreckers dismantling other MUs. The only problem is when you go to the average mechanic and he or she,….? doesn’t have a clue, can’t be bother to call around and therefore can only suggest sourcing/import parts. But due to a stroke of genius from Justin, anyone can look at the Sydney Isuzu club page and search for compatible parts in a list that he is compiling. ;D“Well Done JUSTIN”;D As for insurance,….DGA does seem to the best, but you’ll never know unless you call them and ask?
Best of Luck Pissy

Tisk tisk .... an inferior vehicle but at least you found the best web site to possibly make you see the light ... LOL ... I for one, am not lucky enough to be under 25 anymore but give DGA a call (03 9670 9344 - I think they have a toll free number but its not on my policy document) and see what they have to offer. Even consider them for your 4runner. I have my landcruiser and my zook with them and they are very competitive. As Matt and Pissy have said, parts are readily available here for MU's so you have nothing to worry about there and in the rare event that you have a problem, you have the best link in the world to local MU bitz and piecez right here ... ;D

I'm under 25 with the 3.1 turbo MU and i seem able to manage insurance payments through tower here in NZ. As for the parts.. HA!!! I have no trouble getting parts (unless it's something small like the braces that hold the windows to the electric rails in the doors.. hmmm dont get me started on that )

a word of caution re tower insurance if you go off road. I had tower. 2 years ago they happily answered the question "do you cover off road" as "yes . When I checked 3 months ago the answer was no.Do a search on this forum for "tower insurance" for the full responce.

Hi. I'm in Aus & insured with Elders but some companies I rang wouldn't insure because it comes under imported cars.

JessMU, If you don’t mind me asking, how much are you paying with Elders? Interesting to know if they competitive against DGA? Most of us in Oz I imagine are with DGA, with premiums from $500-$800.
Cheers

Hi Sorry i didn't catch you online. We pay just under $400 for full comprehensive but that's for over 25yo. We bought the MU for our daughter 12 months ago & racq, amp & suncorp all said no.

Unique Insurance in Melbourne insured me before I was 25. The don't cover you for un-named tracks though.
