If you put the car in 4wd the light is suposed to come on to remind you that it is in 4wd. When you take it out of 4wd the light is meant to go out. If either thing does not happen you have a problem. What model do you have? It sounds newer than most of us drive Remember 4wd is only for gravel roads sand and mud. If you use it on hard surfaces you will wear tyres and drivetrain parts quickly.

Thanks for that.... Now why couldn't they have put THAT explanation in the user manual :-D My Mu is a 1996 model, 3.1 TD 5sp manual. It does have the later (rounded) dashboard. Oh yeah, which leads me to another question... Why would I have the later dash when the manufacture date of Mu is 11/95? Pictures I have seen of other 1996 Mus have the older (square) dash.... Odd!

Did you get 11/95 from the option/chassis plate under the bonnet?

Just checking where you got the info from . There seems to be a lot of differences of options and years. You seem to get earlier builds with later interior and vice versa?? My brother in law has a 3.1D 4 door bighorn which is late 94 build date and has the nice rounded later dash set up. At least there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference in the interiors on my 89 model. Actually there are a few options!!!! (COLOUR) ;D ;D
