Finally i've got the for sale sign on the 4runner and am now madly searching trading posts looking for my very own Mu. I"m probs going to get an extension on my loan to put XGS 2000's underneath it. Does anyone know the full price for the parts and installation? Also, is there anything else that should be done as soon as i get it which will make it run better or longer? P.S-Diff locks can wait a few months ;D

Out of the box the Mu will do most things you ask of it depending on what you want it for. As you are looking at XGS shocks you probably intend to use it off road so mud tyres of 31 or 32 inch (more if you do a lift) and snorkle would high on the list. Then a 30 to 100mm lift either body or suspension or a combo could be usefull. If it has aloy steps remove them and maybe replace with very solid steel . XGS shocks are good shocks but not cheap to buy fitting can be done by anyone who knows which end of the spanner goes on the nut. If you do springs at the same time then these require a little more knowledge but easily done by a home mechanic. If you lift the suspension more than 50mm then a ball joint flip is a good idea to improve articulation and wheel alignment. If you dont intend to go off road then none of the above is realy needed and its taken 7 years including a fair amount of 4wding to get my wagon to the above stage . Get your new ride checked by a competant mechanic as many Mus suffer badly from the poor maintanance practices of the original owners (in the case of some jap imports there is no maint practices ie 70000k original oil)This applies to virtualy all second hand cars

There's a petrol MU in the 'For Sale' section. Worth having a look.

Hi Stupes,
I have put on XGS 2000 on my MU and all up from TJM brisbane i paid $1500 for everything new but without torsion bars ($460).
That was for leaf springs, 4 XGS shocks, U-bolts, bushes and installation. the heavy duty torsion bars is 460 on top of the 1500. The ride is a bit stiff on the road but off road is a dream, can give the MU a workout without worrying about suspension as all the XGS gear on the MU is from larger heavier 4X4s so we can drive harder,...haha ;D

Cheers Pissy. Yeah a mate has XGS 2000's on his duel cab hilux and it made shitloads of difference. That Mu looks good Roger except for the petrol bit. Thats one of the main reasons i'm getting rid of the 4runner. Is there anything i should really check on a Mu before buying it. Are there any little things that i might be able to look out for?

I’m sure that some of the more technical minded members can help you on that (oil around seals,...blah blah, i don't understand it all ). I am hoping that my T-Belt light actually comes on at 100,000kms therefore allowing me to assume that the Odometer has not been tampered with. I too am thinking of diff lockers and such, but am tiny bit confused by it all, I think start a new topic on the that matter. Cheers and best of luck in the search Chris P.S where are you based?

Yeah i have no idea what i'm doing when it comes to mechanics. Lucky for me i know a mechanic who is an ex Mu owner. The ideal Mu i'm searching for is a black manual 3.1, but i'll probs get sick of waiting and just buy one. I'm based in Northern NSW, about 3 hours south of Brisbane. Thanks for your help pissy.

Roger,
Ditto with my MU. Bought it with 70something on the clock and now at 120something, no red light yet.

There usually is one or 2 nice MUs at the Gold Coast, perhaps Witchdoctor can keep an eye out for you (but if he finds one for you'll have to go on the next Levuka trip,... ;D) Best of luck

I Have keep my eye out continiously for the past 1 & 1/2 years for a Manual 3.1 @ a resonable price, and am yet to see one (im in Brisbane). I have totally settled on my 2.8 now and love it ;D
You will be a lucky bugger to find one.

Thats a bit pricey $23,990, even with a possible V6. I personly would only pay $19,000 but then again I am abit of a tight arse Frank, thanks again for putting up an avatar for me. Love them beans "Beans Beans the musical fruit, the more you eat the more you TOOT" ;D Dave maybe you should change your avatar to your famous "Wong Tong Soup" ;D ;D Cheers
