Just emailed tower to note my suspension lift onto my policy and confirm there current policy for off road use This is the reply Hi, It has been confirmed by the Underwriting and Claims manager that the off-roading exclusion includes the types of activities that you partake in with the 4wd club. From an insurance perspective we believe these are a higher risk than normal use of the vehicle on a road. Unfortunately, we are unable to insure your vehicle whilst it is being used for these activities. over 20 years since a claim that was my fault as well As Barry Crump said in the Toyota ad " ?///// ?" My next email will be asking Barlows for there 4wd cover.

Alan - I recommend you call AMI. We did some homework on insurance cos at my Cantab club and AMI not only were happy to cover our trucks offroad but even covered hydraulicing diesels in the river. And there prices are very good. This is the best NZ company we found. Give them a buzz - may save some dollars. Mike.

I did enquire with AMI some time ago but they wouldnt cover my sons driving the bighorn as its motor is over 2.6 liter Didnt matter that its diesel. Also the person I spoke to said they didnt cover off road. On the NZ4WD forum several people have had the same response from AMI although several other people have had no problems claiming. Ive just enquired about the insurance deal set up by NZ4WD association with Barley Insurance and its cheaper than my Tower policy and theres no amiguity re off road so all my policies will be going there. I will also enquire if this policy is available to non NZ4WD association members and let everyone know

My Vehicle insurance is via ASB Bank ( Although they use RNMA - State ) the policy reads "the vehicle will be insured while being used for the purpose for which it was designed"
When I questioned off road damage they advised that all damage sustained off road would be covered, as long as a) I was not in a compition of any sort and b) I was not doing anything that I was charging for.
I even got it in writing.
Prices are good as well.

2 years ago I had the exact same response from Tower I dont know when they changed They certainly didnt inform anyone. I would check with your insurance co from time to time as they do change interpretation of there policies as they whim.
