Help, rebuilding engine 4jb1t

Hi all
I am in the process of rebuilding my 4jb1t from my Mu.
After taking the engine out and tipping the block upside down I discovered a large ball bearing on the floor . I suspect it comes from around the assembly the oil filter screws into . Can anyone confirm/deny this. I assume this ball bearing acts as a valve.

What size is 'large'.I've dismantled 2 of these motors and havn't seen ball bearings of any kind.

Its a ball bearing about 3mm in diameter. I think from memory when changing my oil filter I saw one where the oil filter screws in. Think it acts like a valve or oil pressure regulator?
