Recently my turbo died on me and I am just wondering if there is a rule of thumb for a turbo replacement onto a 94 3.1L auto MU eg sizes and types/brands. At the moment I am looking at a new rodeo turbo, but am concerned that I don't get the right type, I could starve the engine of air or over do it?

Are you in NZ? I know of a company in Christchurch that have replacement turbos for these.

IHI RHF5 VAIO is the model you want. It is a servicable model to replace the supposedly unservicable ones the MU 3.1 came out with. I put a new one on my 94 MU last year. I got it from Diesel & Turbo in Auckland cost about $1100 Kiwi. If that's too scary 4x4Isuzu bits in Onehunga will do you a second handy for around the $500 mark. Here is a link to the spec: www.ihi-turbo.com/turbo_chart.htm J

Also try A1 Turbos (Trading as MC Racing) in Auckland. Damian has extensive experience with a huge array of turbos (had a Wizard in his shop last week).
MC Racing (A1 Turbos) Sunnybrae Road North Shore, Auckland 09 4443489
Ask for Damian and mention my name.
Worth a try anyway :-)

Thanks for everyones input about turbos, I got a brand new Rodeo one put in (don't know the turbo Number), for $1600 fitted in brisbane. Runs much better now but will have to see if there is any difference in fuel. Probably due to my last turbo dyeing and I should check my air filter too, I only got around 400Kms on a full standard tank, thirsty truck!!
Thanks Again and cheers ;D
