* hi does anyone know if the cv's that are with auto hubs the same length as the ones in manual locking ones? just need to know b4 i waste this blokes time in pulling em apart for nothing * also is the 3.1 auto a stronger box than the 2.8? any input would be much appreciated. regards muvit

Auto and manual hubs are interchangeable but use different circlips and grooves.Make sure you get the circlips and spacer shims with the hubs. Harry.

Sorry for going slightly off topic, but its related. I changed mine over from auto to manuals some time ago (I have no idea about the circlips or spacer shims), I have a auto front locker and I think I have some kind of hub slipage under hard braking when hubs are locked and in 2WD, (i get loud shuddering feeling and sound in the front end under heavy pedel and engine braking, low 4 and low gear AUTO MU) Could the lack the correct shims and circlip cause this

If in your case one wheel looses traction the locker would be sending all the braking force to the other wheel. Sounds like a normal result

So you saying that it would be normal that hubs/splines slip? It also occurs in braking in soft sand and/or taking hard and fast corners in sand (eg following the a surf beach and coming up and and turning over small soft sanded crests resulting the fronts wheel digging in thus producing the shatter and noise? It will be the tyre slipping on the road not the hub. Potentialy a good way to break cv joints.

thanks harry` the cvs is what i needed just was unsure if they were splined different i.e coarse or fine? & if they were the same in length. cheers looks like ive scored another pair of twigs ;D cheers muvit
