Well, I've seen a couple of instances of planning, and on isuzu4x I see he's actually running one which I need to pick his brain about... but has anyone here had any experience with a dual transfer case setup on an Isuzu.
For those who don't know, the idea is to mate a second transfer case to the back of the existing transfer case. you use the output from the new T/C to drive the wheels (front d/shaft gets long, rear gets short) and the original one is only used to change between high and low. When you put both boxes in low, you get VERY slow crawl speeds, and incredible amounts of torque - perfect for rock-work.
The 5-speed in my MU is a one-piece unit with the T/C built into the gearbox, but I understand the auto models (haven't really looked yet) may have a seperable one? If this is the case, it will therefor be possible to mate the auto t/c to the back of the main box...
Or, should I just mate a hilux 5-speed to the back of the 3.1 and use an off-the-shelf dual adaptor to run twin Hilux T/C's?
Anyone else thought about this? I'm keen to do it but want to assemble as many ideas as I can first to make sure I do it right. I'll probably need a 5-speed box/transfer case to play with too so if anyone has one they want to donate/sell/swap for beer then let me know as well.
Cheers
Steve.

A dual T'case is one of those things thats been at the back of my mind for a while and I'd love to have one (or two?). I certainly would love to work in together, even if just to share knowledge. I do have a spare 5 Speed box (MUA5?) that I may consider donating/swapping/loaning.... It may soon go back into my mu as the synco has been duff for the last 80,000 km and funny noises at low speed for the last 40,000km, the input shaft bearing? Anyway my spare was rough but is now better than my "good" one, so I may have to do some jugling, especially as it wouldn't go into 4 low at the weekend trying to get up to a radio repeater at the top of the weka pass....but certainly one is availiable as a loan for measuring or stareing at and working it out.
I assume you found the good articles and extensive photo record of a dual T'case Isuzu 5 Speed box conversion on 4x4wire.com ?

If its a 5 speed they are seperate housings but more than 1 shaft go between them. Also there is an internal seal that if it fails will drain the gearbox into the transfer case with predictable results. Hilux tranfer cases are seperate and a lot easier to get here than in usa so should also be considered. The artical your link pointed at stated 2x MUA transfer cases so it must be possible

Can't find the article you are talking about James, but I have discovered the shaft lengths are a major issue with the Isuzu T/Cs making the whole driveline VERY long, not a good look in a MU so I may look at adapting the Hilux T/Cs, which really means fitting a Hilux 5-speed as well since the front output flange will be in the way on the MU box. Now all I need is an easy way to fit the Hilux box to the Isuzu engine... would hate to have to fit a Hilux engine as well... Steve

Thanks James - thats saved me hours of searching. Exactly what I was looking for. Now all I need to do is find that bellhousing and hope the back of the 3.2l V6 is the same as the 3.1TD... anyone confirm or deny that one? I'm looking to import a bunch of gear from the US at the moment... and have a few other things on the shopping list, like Detroit lockers and Marlin dual t/c adaptors so this could all work out very nicely Steve
