Must be cables. If you have ABS the handbrake works on a small drum inside the rear disk

I have seen 3 different rear end setups for my 95 mu when i was sourcing handbrake bits. For my setup, the rears are self adjusting primarily with a small bit of manual adjustment just behind the wheel. There is also further adjustment just above and to the rear of the gearbox where the cables from each side meet at the v-piece. The biggest problem with mu handbrakes, other than the fact they generally suck, is that the cables get full of crud and it both sticks and doesnt work at the same time. when the inners are running in a clean and lubricated outer, effeciency is greatly improved at both ends of the scale. if your cables are just old and tired, which could also be the case, you can get new inners made for just under 40 oz bucks. if your outers are in good nick, this can be both cost effective and alot easier to refit.
