I have a LWB 1989 bighorn, 2.8 . I wanna know any reccomendations for new tyres. It is my work, private and off road vehicle, but have had A/T's and didn't like them, looking for muddy's. I have 30.9x9.5 15 on at the moment, and want bigger, has anyone had 31.5 or 33's on theirs, would it be a good idea having 33's for on road use? Where does anyone recommend shopping for tyres, and what brand please? All the help much appreciated.
Dan.

first 33s will not fit without a small lift Also as most 33s are also 12.5 wide (I belive the only tyres in a 33x10.5 are bfg swamper or simex) you would need to extend the flairs which puts you into low vol certification teritory ie $400 Im running 31x10.5x15 tyres on my 89 bighorn and find them fine I did have Firstone RMT which lasted 60000km and would of lasted longer if it wernt for a wheel alignment prob Im now running GT Radial Savero MT tyres Both tyres are fine on the road and good in mud The RMT are excelent in sand the Savero do ok as well. There is a good artical in the May newsletter that is haveing its finishing touches added as we speak on many differant tyre brands that would suit and how fellow Isuzu drivers have rated them.

Dan jusy went from 245/70 R16 A/T's to 31X10.5 R15 Goodyear Wrangler MTR's. The new rubber is awsome in the wet on road or offroad ;D expecting 60-80000K's. Have not had them in the sand should not be a problem arfter running Kuhmo muds on my hilux, we spent alot of time in the sand. Hope this helps.

Hi Dan - I run 245x75x16 Hankook muds on my 88 swb. A very good compromise tyre if you have to do lots of road ks and want off road grunt as well. Tried 32's which were good but needed certification ($240 in Chch). 33's will lift your road gearing quite a bit, taking some top end performance off the vehicle. The 245's (30.6X9.5x16) have been exceptional offroad esp in slick mud and snow. Wider tyres more effective in gravel and sand. Hankook muds handle well on road, little bit of road hum, and 10% slower with cornering speeds than A/T's. Changed my last Hankook muds at 30,000km and thay had worn just under 7ml of their original 14ml tread depth = about 60,000km if driven right out. 245's can just squeak in without certification on 8" rims. Good value esp with 16" rims. If you've got 15's, then I'd also go with the 31x10.5x15's. Hankooks (15's)about $180 fitted if you shop around for 31's. A cobber has BFG muds which have stronger sidewalls, 16-17ml tread depth and cost about 30%+ more than Hankooks. Do more like 70,000+, so the value works out about the same. Maxxis tyres also doing well for club members I know. Regards - Mike A.

Cheers guys for all your help, 31's it is, and as for brand, not sure yet, i think price will decide ultimately! Just one more thing, i live in the Wairarapa(just north of welly), can anyone point me in the direction of a Cooper dealership or agent in the area?
Cheers.

Re 32's on a bighorn. They fitted well on my 88 swb - a close fit at full lock but ok. Stuck out a bit from side on 8" rims - Mike A.

Firestone RMT's or ATX's give good value for money, can get them for $179 a tyre when they have specials on. wear about 60-70000km depending on what surfaces and how you drive. bit of road noise but not really an issue. I run 31x10.5x15's on my bighorn, with 8" rims for off road

Hey all,
im running Dunlop MT1's 31x10.5x15in on 7" rims, great tyres, bit noisier on the road, but awesome in the mud offroad, never had them in sand, (dont like playing in the sand) but there not too bad in the snow either, have only done around 10,000kms on them, but there is heaps of tread left
my 2c
