Hi there everyone, just a quick question, Does anybody have any experience with importing a car into Australia from New Zealand. A friend of mine has done it a few time with cars from Japan but he is unsure on the exact rules for New Zealand and such. The reason is if it is not too expensive it may be a way to get a cheap MU in fair condition without too much hassle. Not that there is a shortage of MU's in Australia, but that there seems to be a surplus in NZ hence the price difference. Thanks For any help.

I think your government has made it nearly impossible to import any cars from anywhere that are on a list of cars that have a locally made equivalent. You and I know that a Mu is nothing like a Holden Frontera with a choice of 2.0 or 2.4 liter Opel engine but your government doesn't. You might be able to get round the rules by moving to NZ for 12 months and owning your chosen Mu for that period then taking it back with you(assuming you still want to go back) but no promises

Yep, been there, done that. You can import any registerable vechicle as a personal import if you have owned it for at least 12 months previously and are a returning Australian citizen or a genuine immigrant. Of course the bureaucratic red tape is u n b e l i e v a b l e and you MUST have authorisation before the vechicle is shipped to Aus ;D ;D ;D
