I note another 4x4 website has a field for reporting recent adventures - might be an idea if we had one. Here's a yarn to start with.
A group of friends with 4 isuzus and a cruiser went last weekend for a couple of days in Reefton - did cathedral caves, staircase creek etc, and came back through No Name road to Kumara, then up over Arthurs Pass ( also known as Parthur's Ass ), and back to Chch. On way back past Craigieburn skifield we stopped to have a crack at extremely steep and now rutted hillclimb there. Cobbers swb 3.4T cruiser with front and rear ARB lockers and 33s didn't make it up, but swb bighorn - with lsd rear and autolocker front went straight over the top first pop. At about 12,500 rpm in L2. Seriously good little climber with its light weight, power and the addition of that front locker. Long face on toyota man...most enjoyable..
Must also mention however that earlier in weekend I had dropped same isuzu into big hole which even my grand-daughter could have driven past with ease. Off roading does tend to keep you humble.
West coast tracks superb. Reefton a delightful spot to camp. And driving through the caves is one magic moment.

Flying hi. a few weekends ago me and two friends ,one with a good old 3ltr land cruiser diesel, and the other with a 3'' lifted, lsd ,4.2 safari did a three night four day trip. we went up the Hopkins river valley, lake Ohua. I got the award for the most wheels off the ground. the three foot shingle bank and L3rd put the bighorn underbelly about three feet in the air and of course what ever wasnt strapped down thought it was in a spaceshuttle. the rebound bounce was a little lower but the yells and ya who's coming over the cb made the flight even more enjoy able. Needless to say the last remaining engine mount died that day.
