hehe, We should arrange a group discount with DGA! I'm with them too, but my renual last week was about $980. Being in Sydney doesn't help with insurance costs Graham.

I'm also with DGA, paying about $600, Bruce where did you get the market value assessment from? I checked against the NRMA when I last reinsured and they were claiming $9800 for a 94 MU in top condition? J

Hi All, I'm also with CGU and I pay about $42 a month for a 95 3.1L MU. It certainly beats the price other mainstream companies charge (if they will touch imports at all). At last check my MU was insured for about $18,000.

I Called DGA today...they also give me a good price of $48 a month, apparently it reduces after the first yr which is inline with what others have found with their renewals. The only problem I have with them is that they do not offer rating 1 protection unless you have been with them for 2yrs. Currently I'm with Unique Cars and pay about $57 a month with rating 1 protection and get 1 windscreen per yr if needed (thats if they even honor it if it can to the crunch). Also they have a major attitude problem....I think that they actually think they work for LLoyds. What would you do? Are there any other insurers ?

I've been with DGA for 3 years but I've never heard of a Rating 1 protection? Is that something to do with your NCB or area of cover? If by Lloyds you mean Lloyds of London and not the bank, then all that means is the risk is underwritten through the Lloyds market which supposedly offers a greater stability against unpaid claims due to ins.companies falling over, (HIH etc.). Their premiums are also meant to be market controlled, ie not the cheapest. J

I too am with them with a 94 MU for $550, good to see an insurance company who does there homework and research on other vehicles compatibilities with the Mu. I have been in contact with them a few time regarding insurance and thanks to the extremely helpful and nice lady there (Tara), she was able to answer all my questions.
From what I have been told/understand, DGA don’t place any excess on modifications and will insure any vehicle with any mods BUT should you make a claim they will not replace/repair the mods that you have made and will repair the factory standards.
Bare in mind that if the mods are illegal then insurance is void; your vehicle must pass your state government road worthy requirements. So to sum up if your vehicle and mods are legal then insurance will cover vehicle but the are not mods should you claim for them.
I hope this helps.
Cheers Pissy

In regards to LLoyds, I was actually been a bit sarcastic...I use to work for Lloysds when I Lived in London, in the business side of things, the actual running of the company. Interestingly I was part of a team doing recovery, recovery of the crash which occured quite a few years back....we where going all over the country side trying to recover documentation (policies, the hard copies) which where missing. I remember once even someone having to go collect docs from a shed on a farm. The system they use now is much better but I still am edgy about using an insurance company associated with Lloyds of London Underwritting. (unique cars) But even so I have been with Unique Cars. I dont know if anyone else has ever had to talk with them, but I find them to be rude, condesending, and basiclly a major attitude problem, similar to a trend a found in certain parts of the company in London. BUT WE ARE IN AUSTRALIA. I spoke a lady called Amanda at DGA, I found her to be very helpful and proffessional with no attitude problem, the impression I also got was that they realize that people who own 4x4,s do add extras and make modifications and that its not something to be used as an excuse to get more money from them and penalize us for. They Also have the understanding that people who go 4x4 in the real sense are usually better than average drivers They definently are the pic of the bunch from the options i have seen to this point. The only Downfall is the rating 1 protection, as its not offered to you unless you have been with them for 2yrs. At Unique cars I only had to pay an extra $10 for it. So if you have an accident it doesnt affect your rating the following year. But here are some of the other positives 1) you covered no matter what your driving on or in ;D 2) the access is quite good been only $350 and no extra fees if the accident occers off road 3) so long as your vehicle is road worthy, you can make any modifications you like. 4) as far as I am aware there not associated with LLoyds 5) NO ATTITUDE PROBLEM sheezzz I have almost convinved myself

Funny you should say that my old man worked in lime street for the corp of lloyds for 40 years and it was his job to regulate insurers for the indo pacific region. Mind you he retired before the crash so no bad tastes left. I agree with you about DGA, and always found them to be helpful, but still confused to what a rating 1 protection is? J

Hi Justin, When one finally manages to get the rating 1 category, as you know the premiums are lowest on this rating. So playing on that, insurance companys introduced a scheme called rating 1 protection. So what that means is that for a small additional fee to your insurance fee, you can also get what is called Rating 1 protection. It's kind of like paying insurance to prtect your rating 1 rating . So what happens is that, if you make a claim.....the following year when you renew your policy, you will still come under rating 1...and your premium will not be affected. Your rating 1 is protected. The rating 1 protection however only usually covers you for one claim per year. hope this makes it clear

A ha! it was the NCB. So its the same as protecting your no claims bonus. So if your at 60% and you make a claim your premium is protected from increasing.
Thanks for that, it was a terminology thing. J

yep, I'm with DGA too. I havent had any problems with them other than invoicing. They have cross referenced three of our vehicles twice in two years. I get jittery when the policy states rego numbers that dont correspond with the right vehicles. I figure they dont need any reason to compromise a policy in the event of a claim. They fixed it both times and resent policies with correct matching details but it is something I keep a close eye on now. Always found them friendly and helpful. The MOO is $504 p.a with an apparent maket value of $12,500 this year.
