Looking at doing my wheel bearings this weekend, but and am also considering doing the cv boots (splitting) and manual hubs. What sort of grease should I use in the bearings? Do the hubs need greasing? My manual hubs are sealed with a paper gasket, but I thought that a liquid gasket (i normally use locktite) would be better. Any comments? Also, I know when doing the bearings that you need to use some sort of sealer (RTV?) will the locktite do here also?
Cheers, Dave (looks like a VERY long weekend ahead)

People have differant favorites for grease, and whats avialable can be a limiting factor. But what is often said is to use a water toleranant grease. Note not water soluble. Throw away the paper gasket, it will wick up water if even a part of it gets wet, it then goes soft, squishes and the hub will comes loose letting in more water. Use RTV or gasket goo. Locktight? what type? 222 Threadlocker? Locktight might work but the threadsealers are brittle and may crack or fail. There is a whole range of locktight products though.
For the CV boots read the articles here and elsewhere, the tricky bit is the 'c' clip that you won't be able to see for all the grease to get the CV joint appart. Follow the instructions even if you can't see.

I only ever use loctite 515 mastergaskit (its that purple stuff) on my hubs and seals, its great stuff.... My hubs have never had a gaskit nor the diffs for that matter, I would say this is from factory. They would use a similar product to a loctite!! (isuzu sealant)
