Hi all, I was looking at replacing my air filter and I noticed a small (thumb sized) triangular hole cut out at the bottom of the air box. Is this meant to be there (some kind of drainage hole maybe), if yes then why have this hole in such a manor that it will draw in unfiltered air, although the amount of unfiltered air would be quite small but never the less still could draw in contaminations?
Cheers Chris

Mine had the same hole at the lowest point in the filter canister. It is there for water drainage. Factory installs have rubber flap. Mine went missing, so I made up a small rubber flap from a tyre tube and fixed it to the outside of the filter canister so water can drain out and very little dust gets in. Providing your filter is not damaged, no dust or contamination should get sucked into your engine. Pete

Thanks Peter, I thought it was just for that "water drainage", my rubber flap is missing too, will do a patch job asap. Thanks again, it all make sense now.

Correct, although when you fit a snorkel you fill the hole in so its water tight...
