hey guys just wondering if any of you have had problems with the rev counter. I was driving along the other day and noticed the rev counter was flicking, then it just went mental and said i was doing 4500rpm when i was crusin at 50km/h in 4th lol, it only does this on the odd occasion not all the time

Every now and then mine will flick up 500 or so rpm higher that it is doing, does this on and off for an hour or so then won't do it for another month or too. I would also love to know why it does this!!

Sounds like your RPM sensor on your injection pump is faulty! These are just inductive pickups and do clap out occasionally! They're located on the injection pump on the engine side(hard to get to in other words).

Mine use to do a similar thing but always came good. Sometimes in the morning it would under read and sit at zero at idle and only get to 1000 rpm when reved, but after a couple of minutes it came good.

hi all ive got the same prob and find that if you whack the housing for the dials it clears it (not too hard or it falls to pieces - not good on the motorway!) so i reckon its either a dodgy connector of a hairline crack in the pcb. havent got round to taking it off and checking it with a magnifing glass. if you do find a crack you can buy silver paint for remaking the bad spot.

Probably just adry solder joint then! Just resolder the joints!

My rev counter doesn't do it but my speedo does up to about 50km. Just small flickering thou. It really annoys me.

YOu probably need a new cable, if you fell energetic take it out and see if you can turn it easily or not, a bit of silicon lube may do the trick or you may need a new cable. or it could be something totally different!!

Hey all. Same prob here with the rev counter!! can jump all up and down just randomly while cruising but it's more noticable when i start it up - probably the main time i'm looking at the thing! I've just put it down to a lovable quirk... ie: it can stay there coz it's not hurting anyone!!

Mine does it at idle - sometimes sitting about 500 rpm below then jumping up but 'behaves' once warm and the occasional tap of the housing for the dials (like descarolan) helps too. I think its in the instruments/pcb cause if it was the RPM sensor on your injection pump that was faulty surely there would be EMU issues as well?
